This gorgeous creature is my niece off to her senior prom. All grown up. I ask, where did the time go?
I still remember the pig tails and giant hypnotic green eyes of a toddler who thought I was the coolest auntie in the world and would love to ride in my teal colored Iroc Z with the t-tops off. (omg, did I just type that? ok, in my defense it was the 90's )
She still has those eyes and still thinks I'm cool. My only proof is that she will, on occasion, stop by my house and raid my closet...So that must mean there is still a "cool factor" left? and wait...those are my earrings she is wearing to prom in the photo above and she called and asked me to do her make-up. I was thrilled!
Seeing her Friday night, our bright eyed toddler, now this beautiful woman, has made me really want to slow down a bit more... enjoy the silly times with my little ones and to try and remember their voices and gestures... right. at. this. very. moment.
Because before I know it, they will be off to proms, college and starting a life without me... and they definitely won't think I'm cool because, well, they really don't think it now. I guess because I'm the mom in this scenario. Auntie's get to be silly and share secrets, clothes and jewelry. A job I do very well. Mom's are meanies. (my daughter reminds me of this fact at least 100 times a week)
but Aunties are cool. always were and always will be.
